Want to make the most of your private health insurance ?
or perhaps you’re researching private health insurance companies to choose the right one that gives you rebates for Bowen Therapy ?
Private health insurers are increasingly recognising complementary and alternative therapies, and a number of insurers recognise Bowen Therapy by accredited Bowen Association of Australia members.
Which health insurance companies cover Bowen ?
The current list of private health insurance companies that can give rebates for treatment at simply bowen therapy include:
- ACA Health Benefit Fund
- Australian Unity
- Grand United Health Fund and Grand United Corporate Health
- Health Care Insurance
- Health Partners
- Medibank Private
- Navy Health
- NIB (but only if you took out the policy before March 2013)
- Nurses and Midwives Health Fund
- Queensland Country Health
- Railway/Transport Health Fund
- Reserve Bank Health Fund
- Teachers Health Fund
- Teachers Union Health
- Transport Health
With all the funds and packages being different, it’s best to check directly with your health insurance company to be certain of your coverage. Bowen is most likely listed by the fund as an “alternative” therapy in one of their “extras” packages.
The list can also be found on the Bowen Association of Australia website.
Some of the insurers give a rebate amount per treatment, with most about $20-30 per treatment (although some are much higher !). A couple of them will refund the full amount, but up to an annual limit. All have annual limits to how much can be claimed, which varies by level of cover chosen. This limit often includes claims for other complementary therapies.
Making a claim
If you are planning to claim, make sure that you tell Lisa which health fund you are with – as different health funds have different requirements for the receipts – to enable your claim to go through smoothly.
simply bowen therapy (and all bowen therapists) can’t have Hicaps – but it’s easy to take the receipt and make a quick claim directly with your insurer.
